Why do it?
For the health benefits.
Increasing evidence shows that sustained gentle exercise has massive health benefits including a reduction in the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and dementia see the Health Benefits page.
For fun?
It might sound strange calling jogging fun, but we run at a gentle pace with time for chat and we are a sociable group, who enjoy jogging together.
Silver Joggers was set up by Keith Frayn in collaboration with Oxford GO Active to encourage those who have never run, or haven't run for some time, to start jogging. A graduated programme of exercise aims to get you from zero to jogging without stopping for 5km in ten weeks. Note especially that we will take all ages not just those over 50. We meet in Bury Knowle Park in Headington on Thursday mornings at 9:30am, running both in the park and around Headington. The Beginners classes start at 10:30. So if you want to join us send your information to us by filling in the information on the Contact page, or just turn up any Thursday. We now have three run leaders and run virtually all year round. You can also find us here https://groups.runtogether.co.uk/SilverJoggers.
To learn more about us take a look at the That's Oxford TV video at this You Tube link.
If you any further encouragement to start running take a look at this site:

A number of us are training to do the Oxford Town and Gown 10km run in May. We leave from Bury Knowle Park on Monday morning at 9:30am and if you want to join us please do come along we are currently up to 6.4km.
